Hi community,

Could someone please help me start up ASA using 8.0(2) IOS ?
I have followed the tutorial given on BrainDump.Net, except compiling and patching.
For Qemu - I have tried giving the path as /usr/local/bin/qemu & just qemu. I have installed GNS3 on Ubuntu 9.10
In both cases, after the initial start of ASA, I wait for 1 minute and then enter the commands cd /mnt/disk0 followed by ./lina_monitor

After this, only error such as the following come up.
Code:
Processor memory 135335936, Reserved memory: 20971520 (DSOs: 0 + kernel: 20971520)
Guest RAM start: 0xd6800080
Guest RAM end: 0xdd400000

Restarting system.
.

After this nothing happens..all other routers just work fine in GNS3.

Thanks in advance...

Try extracting the image as root
Code:
sudo cpio -i --no-absolute-filenames --make-directories < ../asa802-k8

The image contains special device files that reference objects in the ASA/Linux kernel. When you try to extract the images, it tries to create these files on your host OS--hence referencing special devices on the host at time of extract. A standard user does not have permission to do this.

If you don't have sudo privs, you'll have to 'mknod' those files yourself once the ASA image boots.

yes I have tried that. Didn't help.

I was successfully able to do that step but then I wasn't able to copy and paste first_start.sh into tmp/asa/scripts/

Maybe I need to login as root on ubuntu and try all the steps.

Its weird because the user under which I'm logging in, is already a member of the ROOT group....
